Day 63 May 30th

Left Bend and rode Hwy 20 over to the coast. North on 101 to Lincoln City OR. Ride across 20 passed by snow capped mountain range in the Three Sisters area.
Couple in room next to us were from OK traveling in their 1958 Edsel two door station wagon. It had been totally redone with late model Mustang running gear. Very nice car.
225 miles today.

Day 62 May 29th

Rode from Redwoods NP to Bend OR today. Had a long visit in CA, but time to move north. We did go to Crater Lake NP. Roads just opened in the park last week. Still lots of snow around. The lake is the deepest in the USA at 1943'. Was glass smooth so the reflections in the water were amazing. It looked like the sky with reflections of the clouds in the water.
Another great day with 309 miles covered.

Day 61 May 28th

Up 101 to the Avenue of Giants. This is a 31 mile section of road thru old growth coastal Redwood trees. In Humboldt SP. Spent a good part of the day hiking around looking in awe at the tallest living things an earth. Glad some of them were saved from logging for us to enjoy.
Continued up 101 to Redwoods NP. Camped at a campground there with a lot of younger trees and lots of huge stumps through the campground from logging in early 1900's. Getting much greener as we travel north. Lots of ferns in the campground.
209 miles today.

We did see herds of Elk toward the end of the day along the 101.

Day 60 May 27th

Left Napa today and went back to the PCH. Rode up the coast until it connected with the 101. Last 22 miles of Hwy 1 was a great twisty section of road. Stopped and rode thru one of the drive thru Redwood trees in Leggett.
Stopped at Standish-Hickey SP for the night. Met Pete and Tony from England in the campground. They are also on a six month long ride. Riding a 600 Tenere and a 660 Tenere. Started in Nova Scotia and had ridden across Canada with plans to ride to southern end of South America.  They have a blog
at  www.horizonsunlimited.com/hubb/ride-tales/more-than-tener-e-tour-74216
233 miles today.

Mendocino had lots of water towers

Day 59 May 26th

Today was a short ride to Napa to get a motel room and meet up with Jerry's step son and his wife.
As we were packing up to hit the road a guy we had meet in a gas station a fews weeks ago in San Jose came over to our camp site. He was camping in the same campground. It is a small world. He has been following our blog and asked about the dates and routes. He noticed we had been changing direction and wandering back and forth or the dates were mixed up. We are back tracking at times and dates are right.
55 miles today getting to Napa.

Brookes, Dr. Kelly, Lauren and Jerry's stepson John

Day 58 May 25th

Got up today to the wind blowing like crazy. We are hanging around for next couple of days to meet up with Jerry's step son. We took a ride north on Hwy 1. Traffic was bumper to bumper so after 45 miles we decided to head back to the campground and do some chores.
We visited with a couple we met camping next to us. Had us over for dinner which was appreciated as we don't get to involved it meal prep. Sean and Michelle have lived and worked in OR and WA and gave us some suggestions on places to see. Its been good meeting great people on our travels.
Rode about 85 miles today.

Day 57 May 24th

Rode to San Francisco today. The ride was down Hwy 1 from Olema. Great section of of road most of the way. Area just south of Olema reminds me of the Blue Ridge Mountain area.
Stopped in Sausalito for a bit. Ended up down at the wharf. Ate too much seafood and watched a few street performers before heading back to Olema.

Day 56 May 23rd

We really liked the Samuel P. Taylor SP. Meeting up with Jerry's step son on Monday the 26th in Napa valley. Tried to get three more nights, but it was booked up due to Memorial day weekend.
We have been spoiled up till now, but vacation season is starting so we may have to start checking ahead of time for places to stay.
Got one of the last sites at Olema RV park. Lucked out again.
Its on Hwy 1 near Point Reyes National Seashore. We rode into the park and hiked out to Chimney Rock.  Then we hiked out to the Lighthouse. There were a couple of coves with Elephant seals and had one swim up to to check us out where we were standing on the rocks.

Day 55 May 22nd

Rode from Yosemite to the coast above San Francisco. Camped in the Samuel P Taylor SP. Nice campground with Redwood grove in it.
Along the way we met Russell and Gail Lee when we stopped for lunch. They were on a 10 day tandem bicycle ride. Had a nice visit with them at lunch. They have a website at www.worldtrippers.com to follow them on their ride.

Day 54 May 21st

We hiked up the Mist Trail to Vernal Fall and Nevada Fall. There are over 600 stone steps to get up the trail. Some of them go up along side of Vernal Fall and its wet climbing. Pretty strenuous trail for a flatlander like me. Hiked 8 miles today and the views were worth it.

Day 53 May 20th

Woke up to a cloudy day. Decided to hike up Yosemite Fall trail. We found out about a side trail above the lower fall that had a view of a middle fall and the pool for the lower fall. You don't see the middle fall from the valley.
Well worth the hike for the views.

Day 52 May 19th

Today we rode from Mammoth Lakes to Yosemite via Tioga pass to set up camp there for another three days. The ride up Tioga from east side had better snow views than the opposite way we rode the
other day.
After setting up camp we visited Bridalveil Fall.
Then we went over and watched some rock climbers on EL Capitan.

Day 51 May 18th

We spend today exploring the Mammoth Lakes CA area. We were between 8 and 9 thousand feet most of the day. Rode to a half dozen mountain lakes. Spent some time hiking around them taking pictures. We also stopped by the ski area. Lots of runs on the slopes around here.
Did a little bit of National Forest dirt road riding.
It was very windy today with temps in low 50's. We only rode a total of 50 miles today, but had a good time.
