Day 111 July 17th

Rode from Bowman ND to Sturgis and Deadwood SD today.
Sturgis is home to the famous motorcycle rally. This will be the 74th annual event. The rally starts Aug. 4th. Already quite a bit of activity with vendors getting setup. We toured the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum. They had quite a few interesting old motorcycles. Bought some souvenirs and rode over to Deadwood.
Deadwood was started in 1876 during the gold rush years. Wild Bill Hitchcock was killed in Deadwood.
We did see a few antelope on our ride today.
Had a very interesting conversation with the manager of the Super 8 we stayed in tonight. He mentioned that he had lived in Melbourne FL after seeing my drivers license. I asked how he ended up in SD. Said he had moved to IN then Metter before meeting his wife that moved him to SD. I said Metter where? He said GA. I said I know some people in Metter GA that own a BBQ restaurant. He said Joe Hulsey. I said yes. Joe married my wife and I the second time in his house in Metter. Turns out the motel manager is son of one of Joes best friends. Very small world.
184 miles traveled today.

  1. Small world indeed. My friend from Pennsylvania was in Deadwood either this week or the end of last week with his riding buddies!
