Day 66 June 2nd

Plan today was to visit Mt St. Helen's and Mt Rainier. we were going to St. Helen's from the south. Found road closed. So we had to do some back tracking to get to North entrance which turns out to be best location to see the mountain and damage from 1980 explosion. We watched a couple of movies and ranger presentations. Had no idea just how big the 1980 event was. And did not remember that it was that long ago. Top of mountain and one whole side were were blown out. The crater has had a dome of lava built back up 1300 feet since the explosion. The newest glacier in the world is also in the crater. Anyway we didn't get to Mt Rainier today. Couldn't leave St. Helen's.

See the side of the mountain blown out and top 1400 feet gone.

All the trees in the area blown down as far away as 17 miles.
222 miles rode today.
